Cinco de Mayo often gets celebrated by many non-Mexicans as a day to eat Mexican food and margaritas. Do that! It’s fun and supports local businesses! But let’s also open our hearts to those who may not look like us, pronounce words the same way we do, or come to the US in desperate need. For certain, immigration needs to be legal with systems in place to make that accessible for all. In the meantime, Hola amigos on Cinco de Mayo.

You could save a life! APPEARANCE CHANGES 😞What does it feel like? My partner decides what I wear. They decide on my hairstyle or makeup. They call me names or forbid me to wear things I like to wear. If I want to wear tight or short clothing, I get accused of cheating. I may be forced to have cosmetic surgery I don’t want. 🫶🏽 Together we can PREVENT domestic abuse! Everyone has the right to live in a Safe Home and have Equal, Healthy Relationships!

Four years ago, our sweet Maria Pew, love of our life was taken from this world. We love her and miss her deeply. We want to recognize the First Responders who provide safety to our community, especially those they bravely assist during a domestic crisis. Most of those heroic actions do not make the news….conversations urging safety; the referral to resources for help; the kind and reassuring word that they will be there for them. First responders, those in Maple Grove and throughout the metro community, were there for our family and for Maria. They continue to be here for us, in their friendship and in their support of domestic violence prevention education. We are grateful to them. My phone or computer gets broken or my service gets cut off. I’m forced to share my login information. I get blocked from accounts. GPS monitors my every move. 👀 What does it look like? Your friend’s partner texts or calls constantly. An immediate response is required. Their partner insists on knowing where they are at all times. You can’t reach your friend because they have no access to the internet, social/email accounts—or even their cell phone. 👍🏿 What’s a Safe Action? Point out that using technology to control or spy on a person is controlling or wrong. Listen without judgment if they choose to confide in you. National DV Hotline: Call 1-800-799-SAFE(7233), Text “START” to 88788, Chat Online: www.thehotline.org 💜 What’s a healthy sign? Partners trust each other and do not constantly check up on each other. Friendship Friday! While Rocky couldn’t be with us last weekend, we still enjoyed having his friends pose with him. We learned so much about friendship last weekend, especially how incredible it is when we all band together to work towards a common goal. Hello! We wanted to take a break from our regular posts and pop in a few gardening tips. With the weather warming up, it gets easier to enjoy the outdoors.
